Berlin Kids International e.V.

Who we are

Welcome to Berlin Kids International e.V. – the association that initiated the founding of the school. Many schools in Berlin have Fördervereine, which as the name suggests, help to support the school by raising money or organizing events. Berlin Kids International e.V. is different. We are much more than a Förderverein. Berlin Kids International e.V is a non-profit association that fosters intercultural learning in an international setting. We sponsor projects that combine German-English bilingual education with interactive and cooperative teaching methods. Membership is open to anyone with an interest in these projects and offers rich opportunities to actively shape their development, especially to families of current or prospective students.

What we do

Berlin Kids International School is run jointly by two administrative bodies (Träger): Pfefferwerk Stadtkultur gGmbH, which is the legal trustee of the school; and our association, Berlin Kids International e.V., which is the legal trustee of the Schulhort, or daycare facility. These two bodies are jointly responsible for the organizational and financial structures necessary to operate as a Ganztagsschule, with a school day running from 8:30 to 16:00 as well as daycare facilities from 07:30 to 8:30 in the morning and 16:00 to 18:00 in the afternoon. One representative of the Association sits alongside one representative of the Pfefferwerk and the Head of School, Cornelia Donner, on the school management board (Schulgremium). The cooperation agreement between Pfefferwerk and Berlin Kids International e.V stipulates that the association is responsible for the school concept, which includes the school’s admissions policy, as well as decisions on the structure and level of the school fees. In addition, the Association is joint owner, along with Pfefferwerk, of the school building. Currently the Association is actively engaged with Pfefferwerk in preparations to expand the school, starting in 2012, to include secondary level education all the way up to (bi-lingual German-English) abitur. The Association will make a significant financial contribution to the funding for the first three years of the secondary school. And finally, the Association is closely involved in school life through its parent-run groups; these give parents a wonderful opportunity to work for and with their children’s school. Our groups are responsible for work in the garden, for the organization of afternoon music lessons, for the school library, for PR and fundraising, for the secondary school expansion – and of course we are always on hand to support the school in any other way that we can, be it cleaning windows or helping out with Open Day. We warmly welcome new members to join us!
