Berlin Kids International e.V. (registered association)

In the spring of 1999 the parents initiative "Berlin Kids-International Kindergarten e.V." was started, powered by a need and desire to transfer into the Berlin community what was already being practiced by our families every day: living bilingually, in our case, in German-English.

We had two goals: the theoretical and practical advancement of bilingual education, and the direct interaction of German- and English-speaking parents.

The founding parents who came together in 1999 had these in common: living and/or working in the eastern districts of the city, and believing in bilingual education. At that time, there were over 5 German-English primary care facilities in the western districts of Berlin, but none in the eastern districts. That has changed. We started this change with the launch of Berlin Kids in March 2000. Since the beginning of this project, many German parents have shown an interest; they have been convinced that a bilingual education opens up major new possibilities for the development of children.
